ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — With another cold morning on tap — 18 degrees at 5 a.m. — some local students will get a break from having to go to school.
“Due to hazardous driving conditions on multiple roads and overnight freezing, we will have a remote learning day on Wednesday, December 4th, for the safety of our students and staff,” Avery County Schools said in a social media post.
Other school districts in the area that are closed today include:
- Madison County Schools (optional teacher work day)
- Mitchell County Schools (remote weather day)
- Yancey County Schools (remote learning day)
Temperatures Wednesday are expected to reach a high near 52, according to the National Weather Service. The low tonight should be near 32. A Wind Advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Wednesday until 4 p.m. Thursday. West winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected.
