ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Showers and thunderstorms are expected to become a daily occurrence across the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia, beginning Tuesday and continuing into the weekend.

A few storms Tuesday afternoon could become strong to severe. Rain is expected on and off throughout the week, the National Weather Service said, so residents are encouraged to keep rain gear handy to avoid getting caught in a downpour.

Showers and storms are currently moving across the North Carolina and Tennessee mountains, with additional activity expected to spread into surrounding areas later Tuesday.

A cold front is expected to stall over the region, serving as a trigger for scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms. This weather pattern is expected to persist through much of the week, with warm temperatures and increasing humidity.
