ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — At West Village Market, we strive to carry local products from farmers, makers, and artisans. Our market is a showcase of the best from Asheville and WNC in every department, touting well over 500 products! When you shop local, you invest in a thriving, connected, and sustainable future.

We’re also proud to be a sponsor of the West Asheville Tailgate Market, which occurs every Tuesday from 3:30-6:30pm from April-December. Some of the vendors that you’ll find at the West Asheville Tailgate, as well as the other farmers markets in town, are also stocked at the Market. In fact, some small businesses even got their first start here in our store, like Big Deal Oatmeal, Asheville Tea Company, and many more! We delight in seeing small businesses grow and thrive, while money circulates within the community, supporting local jobs, and contributing to the overall well-being of our city.

When you buy directly from farmers at the neighborhood tailgates, you are ensuring that you and your family have access to the freshest and most nutritious seasonal fruits and vegetables. Building a relationship with your local farmers allows you to learn their farming practices and understand where your food comes from, making your produce taste all the better. With so many Asheville tailgate markets to choose from, almost every day of the week, you’ll discover new products and produce you’ve never tried before. Once you’ve packed your baskets with the freshest vegetables in town, the Market is here for you to supplement your grocery haul!

If you missed out at the farmers market, you’ll find leafy greens from Gladheart Farms and gourmet mushrooms from Black Trumpet Farm in our Produce Department. No matter the season, you can also get fresh sprouts from Micro Burst Farms at the Market.

Looking for unique spices and blends? A Well Seasoned Table and Spicewalla are sure to add a punch of flavor to your meals. Both pair well with meat, vegetables, and vegetarian proteins (think tofu and tempeh from Similing Hara Tempeh). We carry meats from Hickory Nut Gap, a regenerative farm located in Fairview and we even source sustainably caught seafood from NC OBX Seafood. Once caught off the shores of the Outer Banks, the seafood is frozen the same day and then delivered to the Market!

Our vegan refrigerated case is stocked with unique non-dairy cheese flavors from Darë Cheese. These plant-based cheeses make a great appetizer or a side to your meals. Dip your seasoned veggies or sweets in their delicious soft spreads or add to a sandwich. You’re going to want to eat your way through our entire selection!

We sell fermented foods from Serotinin Ferments to keep your gut healthy, with unique kraut and kimchi options. These small batch ferments are made nearby in Marshall, NC. We most certainly can’t overlook our herbal supplement department. West Village Market carries a variety of herbal supplements, wildcrafted from herbalists of WNC, including Pines Herbals, Red Moon Farms, and Wise Earth Botanicals, to name a few.

When you need fresh bouquets or dried flowers, pop in and grab beautifully arranged flowers by Farm Girl Flowers. Imagine your home-cooked meal with produce from the farmers market set on your table with a bouquet of locally grown, decadent-smelling flowers, sitting in the middle. What a dreamy sight!

But wait, we can’t forget about dessert! The Market receives deliveries from Back Porch Baking Co. several times a week. From danishes to chocolate croissants, cruffins, and muffins, these vegan sweet treats are the perfect end (or beginning, we won’t judge!) to your meal. Back Porch Baking Co. just started selling their vegan baked goods at the East Asheville Tailgate Market every other Friday, so catch them there, too!

West Village has you covered in the gift department, too! Adorn your ears with the most unique clay jewelry from Clay Magik, made in Weaverville. We sell local pottery, stickers, jewelry, and more. Take your time perusing the aisles to discover all that we offer.

While it isn’t possible to cover all our local items in one article, we will be showcasing local vendors in future monthly features so stay tuned! We hope you will consider shopping small and local, including support of the tailgate markets in and around Asheville.
