ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The men of Asheville City put together a complete team performance en route to a 5-0 win over East Atlanta FC in Georgia.

The Blues hopped on the board quickly as in the 14th minute Michael Rempel hit a worldie of a free kick to beat the EAFC keeper and put Asheville up 1-0.

Seven minutes later, the Blues found their second of the evening. Dylan Kropp played a ball to Edouard Nys who curled it in off the post and into the right corner to put the Blues up 2-0 only 21 minutes in.

Rempel completed his brace in the 36th minute when he stepped up to take a free kick on the left side outside the box. His attempt to put it cleanly through the wall was foiled when it clipped an EAFC defender, but the ball changed direction, wrong-footing the keeper before nestling into the bottom right corner to put Asheville City ahead 3-0.

The fun did not stop there as 4 minutes later, Brennan Creek played a feed into Kim to the left of the goalbox semi-circle. Kim darted into the box and from the left side and placed a magnificent curling strike into the upper right corner, beating the keeper and putting the Blues up 4-0 just before half.

Disaster struck early for the Blues in the second half, as a few minutes in, Kimito Fritz picked up his second yellow on a tackle in the midfield area that gave the ref enough of a reason to remove him from the game as the Blues fell to 10 men.

That would not stop the Blues, however, as by the 56th minute, they were back on the scoreboard. Nys hit Issah Haruna with a nice pass on the break, who placed a nifty finish past the Legends keeper to put the Blues up 5-0 early in the 2nd half.

The Legends nearly pulled one back late in the half, as a well-hit through ball found an attacker in the center of the box. The attacker stopped and lofted a well-placed shot heading towards the upper right corner, but Jonny Mennell made a phenomenal diving save to his left to preserve the shutout, and the game ended soon after with a 5-0 scoreline favoring the Blues.

Jonny Mennell and Edouard Nys were named the Noble Cider Player(s) of the Match for their efforts on the evening. Mennell made a handful of tough stops to keep the EAFC attack off the board and earn a clean sheet. Nys finished the match with a goal and an assist and was a driving force in Asheville’s attack while on the pitch.
