ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The National Weather Service is warning of a stretch of unsettled weather across the region beginning Thursday, with high humidity, scattered thunderstorms and the potential for localized flooding expected to persist into early next week.
Forecasters said a subtropical air mass will move back into the area Thursday as a warm front lifts northward, triggering scattered showers and thunderstorms. Isolated damaging winds and periods of torrential rainfall are possible.
Rain chances are expected to increase Friday with continued moisture surging into the region. While the risk of strong winds may ease slightly, meteorologists caution that the likelihood of heavy rainfall and flash flooding could increase.
Temperatures on Thursday and Friday are forecast to remain near seasonal averages, but high humidity levels will make conditions feel particularly muggy.
Little change is expected through the weekend, with persistent cloud cover possibly keeping daytime highs slightly below normal. However, elevated dewpoints will maintain a sticky feel to the air.
A weak upper-level disturbance could enhance storm activity late Sunday into Monday, with a chance for drier air to move in by Tuesday.
Forecasters also warned of the potential for wet microbursts, brief but intense downdrafts associated with thunderstorms, which could bring localized downpours and isolated wind damage during this period.
