BALSAM, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A South Carolina man died Sunday after suffering a medical emergency near the Graveyard Fields Overlook Trailhead on the Blue Ridge Parkway, officials said.
Parkway dispatchers received a call around 3:52 p.m. reporting a visitor in distress near Milepost 418, according to the National Park Service.
Emergency responders, including Blue Ridge Parkway rangers and Haywood County EMS, arrived to find 58-year-old Muhammad Sultan, of Columbia, South Carolina, experiencing serious medical complications. CPR was administered at the scene, officials said.
Sultan was pronounced dead in an ambulance while en route to Haywood Regional Hospital.
No additional information was released. The incident remains under review.
