ARDEN, N.C. (828newsNOW) — One of the area’s most popular pet-friendly events is making its return this fall. Dog Day Afternoon will be back at Lake Julian Park on Friday, September 13, with an afternoon of free fun for dogs and their humans.
The event runs from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and includes crowd favorites like the Best Dressed Dog Contest, Pet and Owner Lookalike Contest, food trucks, adoptable dogs from local rescue groups, and high-flying stunt shows from Canines in the Clouds.

New this year: A fenced-in dog play area for large and small dogs will be available at the park, giving pups space to run and socialize off-leash during the event.
“You can enjoy the fenced-in doggie play area with your own dog or while meeting an adoptable dog at Lake Julian,” said Carrie Griffin, event coordinator. “It’s an awesome new experience for Dog Day Afternoon, and we can’t wait to share it.”

The event is free to attend, and leashed dogs are welcome. Full event details and updates are available at DogDayAfternoonAVL.com or follow Dog Day Afternoon on Facebook.
