ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Traffic along several major roads in Asheville today is congested and slow-moving as maintenance and repairs shut down lanes.
On I-40 outside of Swannanoa, N.C., maintenance closed the right lane around Exit 59, creating a major slowdown on the route between Black Mountain and East Asheville. While maintenance ended at 4 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 30, the work remains ongoing in the area.
Heading west on I-40 beginning outside of Biltmore Village, maintenance has created traffic slowdowns between mile markers 40 and 48. Lane closures can be expected throughout next July as construction continues near Brevard Road exit 47 and I-26 East exit 46-A.
On the other side of Biltmore Village, nighttime closures should be expected through midnight tonight as the NC Department of Transportation conducts bridge maintenance on I-40 West above School Road.
