ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) —

Addison Greene, 11, and Eleanor Austin, 10, aren’t your typical Little League Baseball players.

They are among the best female players in the country, North Asheville Little League Vice President Davis Burdette said during a recent interview on WISE Sports Radio.

“They’re both fantastic baseball players. They’re not just hanging on, they’re out there leading the team,” Burdette said.

Greene and Austin are headed to Pennsylvania for a three-day tournament that will bring together nearly 100 female baseball players from across the country for the Maria Pepe Little League Baseball Legacy Series.

The event will kick off with an opening evaluation clinic on Friday, June 7. Then the 96 girls who are participating will be divided into teams eight teams for the weekend’s games.

Teams will play at least three games each from Friday evening through Sunday, with games being held in Howard J. Lamade and Volunteer stadiums in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Addison Greene, 11, and Eleanor Austin, 10, are among the leaders in North Asheville Little League, Vice President of Gameplay David Burdette says.

Greene, a pitcher, and Austin, a catcher, said their moms signed them up to play.

“When I was watching my brother play on this field, I told my mom I wanted to play. The next season, she signed me up,” Austin said while sitting in the dugout at Weaver Park before Tuesday night’s game.

Green said she used to watch her best friend play baseball and throw with his brother at some of the games.

“I told my mom I wanted to play,” she said.

Austin said she likes the action of the game.

“When I’m behind the plate, it’s fun to watch the people try and steal and throw them out,” she said.

Greene said she enjoys hitting the ball.

“And getting to get people out and score,” she said.

One thing they agreed on was the difference in playing with boys and girls.

“Well …,” Greene said with a laugh.

“The girls are a little bit louder,” Austin said, finishing the sentence.
