ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The spookiest month of the year has arrived. October is here, and with it, whole new batches of Halloween props, costumes and animatronics, in addition to several pumpkin patches transported into town.
One of the hotspots for Halloween around Asheville is on Tunnel Road, with Spirit Halloween haunting the former Bed Bath & Beyond building at 83 S Tunnel Road and Halloween Express setting up their big orange tent in front of the Asheville Mall.
Hopping over to the Halloween stores? Here’s what to know
Spirit Halloween

Spirit Halloween is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday-Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays.

Spirit Halloween specializes in costumes of all kinds, but is particularly useful for finding easy outfits for recent pop culture staples, such as Smoke from “Sinners,” the suit from the new “Superman” or The Grabber from “The Black Phone,” a 2021 horror movie getting a sequel later this month.
The most iconic items offered at Spirit Halloween, however, are the animatronics. Every year, the Halloween pop-up builds an ISE, or In-Store Experience, an elaborate themed display filled with moving ghouls and scary sets. Last year, for instance, the store hosted a “Carnevil” display of haunted fair games. This year, the ISE is called “Madison Scare Park,” resembling a scary, dilapidated subway car.

Halloween Express

Halloween Express is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday-Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
Known for its massive orange tent, Halloween Express features rows upon rows of costumes and spooky props for sale.
The grand opening of a second Halloween Express was also held today, Oct. 1, at the Tanger Outlets on Brevard Road.
