ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville will host its first PGA TOUR event in more than 80 years when the Biltmore Championship debuts in September 2026 at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove, a Jack Nicklaus-designed course, organizers announced Monday.
The tournament, part of the FedExCup Fall, will take place Sept. 17-20, 2026, and will be broadcast on Golf Channel, PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+, Sirius XM and the World Feed. Biltmore Estate and Explore Asheville are co-title sponsors under a four-year agreement.
“After more than eight decades since the Asheville Land of the Sky Open, the PGA TOUR is pleased to make its return to the Blue Ridge Mountains with the Biltmore Championship in Asheville,” Tyler Dennis, PGA TOUR Chief Competitions Officer, said in a news release. “We look forward to building a partnership that spotlights the strength and beauty of the area and its community.”
The announcement was made at a morning event at Biltmore Estate with local leaders in attendance. The tournament comes a little more than a year after Tropical Storm Helene caused significant damage in the region.
Mark Hemphill, chief marketing officer of Biltmore, said the event will have a “positive, enduring impact on our community and economy” while offering an opportunity for visitors to experience the region’s natural beauty.
Vic Isley, president and CEO of Explore Asheville and the Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority, added that the event will bring more than 100 professional golfers, thousands of spectators and millions of dollars in local spending, along with national television exposure.
The Cliffs at Walnut Cove, a private club in Arden, North Carolina, features an 18-hole, 7,167-yard course set in a valley near Pisgah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway. The course is consistently ranked among the top in the state.
Asheville last hosted a PGA TOUR event in the early 1940s with the Asheville Land of the Sky Open. World Golf Hall of Famer Ben Hogan won the final three tournaments beginning in 1940. The Biltmore Championship will be the seventh PGA TOUR event in the city’s history.
