ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A stretch of dry, warmer weather will continue across Western North Carolina through early this week, before unsettled conditions return later in the week, according to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg.

Forecasters said temperatures will rebound to near or above normal through Tuesday as high pressure builds over the Southeast. Many locations east of the mountains are expected to reach the 60s and low 70s Tuesday, marking some of the warmest temperatures in months.

Dry conditions are expected to persist through Tuesday, though low humidity values could dip into the 20 percent range Monday afternoon. Winds are forecast to remain light.

A weak cold front is expected to move through the region late Tuesday night into Wednesday, bringing scattered light rain. Rain chances are expected to remain limited, particularly east of the mountains, where some areas may see little more than drizzle. Forecasters said rainfall totals will be light.

Behind the front, cooler and drier air is expected to filter into the region Wednesday night into Thursday. High temperatures Thursday are expected to be cooler than Wednesday, though conditions should remain dry.

Looking ahead to the weekend, forecasters said confidence remains low regarding the timing and strength of the next storm system. Active weather is expected to return Friday into the weekend, with precipitation chances increasing late Friday or Saturday. Current forecasts suggest warmer conditions overall, which would favor rain for most areas, while snow or ice would be mainly confined to the North Carolina mountains.

In the Asheville area, skies are expected to remain mostly clear overnight with lows near freezing. Tuesday will be sunny with highs near 68 degrees. Rain chances increase slightly late Tuesday night into early Wednesday, followed by cooler, breezy conditions Wednesday and dry weather returning Thursday.
