ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Blue Ridge Parkway officially kicked off its 2026 visitor season this weekend, with campgrounds, visitor centers and picnic areas now open across the region.

Park officials said Friday marked the start of the season and encouraged visitors to take advantage of the parkway’s scenic overlooks, hiking trails and cultural attractions. Popular options include picnicking at overlooks, hiking scenic routes, watching sunrise or sunset views and exploring nearby mountain communities.

Visitors can also spend the night at designated campgrounds, listen to regional music at the Blue Ridge Music Center and attend ranger-led programs and cultural demonstrations throughout the season.
Park officials are reminding travelers to recreate responsibly and follow Leave No Trace principles, including properly disposing of waste, respecting wildlife, staying on durable surfaces and minimizing campfire impacts. Officials also urged visitors to plan ahead, check current road conditions and weather forecasts, and respect all closure areas.

More information, including road status updates, detours and event listings, is available on the park’s website. Campground reservations can be made through recreation.gov.
The park encouraged visitors to enjoy the holiday weekend safely and to be prepared for changing mountain weather conditions.
