ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Drivers in Western North Carolina should plan for two separate traffic impacts beginning this week and continuing into late summer, according to state road officials.
In Haywood County, a ramp from U.S. 23 Southbound to U.S. 276 will be fully closed for construction starting at 7 a.m. Monday, June 8. The closure is expected to remain in place through 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30. Officials say all lanes on the ramp will be closed during the work period, meaning drivers will need to follow posted detours and allow extra travel time through the area.
Closer to Asheville, maintenance work is scheduled on Interstate 240 Westbound in Buncombe County from U.S. 70 to Chunns Cove Road. That project begins at 9 a.m. Monday, June 1, and is expected to wrap up by 4 p.m. Friday, June 5. During that time, all shoulders in the work zone will be closed.
Transportation officials encourage motorists to slow down in work zones, stay alert for crews and changing traffic patterns, and check conditions before heading out.
