FAIRVIEW, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A section of U.S. 74A and Middle Fork Road in the Fairview area will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 1, while crews repair a major pothole near an existing temporary soil nail wall.

The closure is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. near Possum Hollow Road. NCDOT lists the closure as affecting all lanes of eastbound Middle Fork Road near Possum Hollow Road.

According to the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department, U.S. 74A will be closed between Possum Hollow and Middle Fork Road during the work.

Drivers will be detoured along Grant Mountain Road to Slock Rock Road, then to U.S. 64 and back to U.S. 74A. The detour will be used in both directions.

Residents on Middle Fork Road should turn right onto U.S. 74A to reach Grant Mountain Road.

Drivers should allow extra time and use caution in the area while the repairs are underway.
