ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian that occurred last week on Tunnel Road.
Around 8:16 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 10, APD officers responded to the 1140 block of Tunnel Road, located across the street from the Asheville VA Medical Center, to investigate a car crash involving a pedestrian.
The preliminary investigation showed that a 2016 Nissan Rogue was traveling eastbound through a green light at the Riceville Road intersection when the car struck a pedestrian. The victim was transported to the Mission Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.
Next of kin has not yet been notified, but more details will be released at that time, APD said.
The driver of the Nissan Rogue remained at the scene. Once the investigation into the incident is complete, officers will consult with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office “regarding this tragic incident,” APD reported.
