ARDEN, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Two people were taken to the hospital after a small plane crashed in a field in Arden on Saturday morning, authorities said.
The crash was reported around 10:50 a.m. Sept. 19 near Roberts Lake Drive, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The aircraft had taken off from Asheville Regional Airport shortly before the crash. The plane’s emergency parachute system was deployed before it came down in a field.
Two people were aboard the aircraft. Both were taken to Mission Hospital in stable condition. No injuries were reported on the ground.
The aircraft was identified as a Cirrus SR20. Cirrus aircraft are equipped with the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System, or CAPS, which is designed to lower the aircraft to the ground by parachute during an emergency.
Local and federal agencies responded to the crash. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
