ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville voters will have another chance to hear from mayoral and City Council candidates before early voting begins, with a forum focused on issues shaping the city’s future.
The Get There AVL General Election Candidate Forum is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Hi-Wire Brewing, 284 Lyman St., in Asheville’s River Arts District.
The forum, organized by Asheville on Bikes, MountainTrue and Strong Towns Asheville, will focus on housing, transportation, resilience and land use.
The discussion will give candidates an opportunity to explain how they would approach decisions about Asheville’s growth, including where new housing should go, how residents get around the city and how Asheville can better prepare for future challenges.
Those issues are closely connected in a city still recovering from Tropical Storm Helene while facing ongoing concerns about housing affordability, infrastructure and development.
Organizers are billing the event as the last Asheville mayoral and City Council candidate forum before early voting begins.
Asheville on Bikes has also organized a candidate questionnaire addressing growth and related issues, giving voters another way to compare candidates’ positions.
The forum is open to the public.
