ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828NewsNow.com) — Due to steady rainfall and moderate winds throughout the night of Nov. 4 and early-morning hours of Nov. 5, a large tree came down on New Leicester Highway at approximately 5:40 a.m. on Nov. 5.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the tree came crashing down near the intersection of Village Creek Drive and New Leicester Highway.

“The tree fell early this morning and blocked the roadway on N.C. 63 East. Two cars were coming that way and collided due to the tree coming down,” Sgt. Haley Onderdonk told 828NewsNow.

Onderdonk said there were no injuries in the accident. West Buncombe Fire Department was also on the scene. Crews used chainsaws to clear the roadway, Onderdonk said.

The Eastbound lanes were closed for approximately one hour, Onderdonk said. One of the Westbound lanes was also closed as crews cleared the scene.
