ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — While the floodwaters from Hurricane Helene have receded in many places around town, the River Arts District in West Asheville remains locked down and waterlogged.

Several businesses at Foundation, a town square of RAD commerce, have been completely torn apart by the floods, including Summit Coffee and The Wedge Brewery. Others, like the Grail Moviehouse and Marquee, remain standing but in rough shape.

Asheville residents milled about the train tracks, covered in mud, talking quietly and scavenging for damaged artwork from their galleries.

Safety-vest clad workers flew a drone above the water this afternoon to further assess the damage.

In the middle of it all, a werewolf statue stood grimacing at the flood. It still stands in its ferocity just as the city of Asheville remains around it.
