ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) —— The Asheville Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred shortly after midnight last night on Rankin Avenue that left one man dead.
Around 12:07 a.m. on Sunday, June 1, APD officers responded to Rankin Avenue near College Street to investigate reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found Andy Garcia Porras, 26, deceased in the roadway.
Next of kin has been notified.
During the incident, several uninvolved bystanders were struck by stray gunfire, sustaining minor grazing injuries which were treated at the scene. One victim was transported to Mission Hospital and is in stable condition.
Detectives have identified persons of interest in the shooting and are continuing to follow up on leads. The investigation is continuing.
