ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville Police Department detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in East Asheville.
Officers responded about 1:07 a.m. Sunday, April 13, to a report of a gunshot wound victim in the 800 block of Fairview Road. Officers found a person with a gunshot wound to the arm and provided aid until EMS arrived. The victim was taken to Mission Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
A preliminary investigation suggests the victim was aggressively pursued by another vehicle for about a mile. The victim attempted to evade the suspect by turning into a parking lot, but the suspect followed. After both vehicles stopped, the suspect reportedly fired multiple shots, striking the victim at least once before fleeing the scene.
Patrol forensics technicians responded and collected evidence from the scene.
