ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville police are investigating a fatal crash that happened Monday afternoon.
A release from the Asheville Police Department (APD) says officers responded to reports of a wreck with injuries near the 5 block of Wood Avenue around 4:30 p.m. on July 22.
Authorities’ initial investigation indicates 36-year-old John Drummond, who was driving a 2011 Ford Taurus, was “traveling south on Wood Avenue crossed left of center, ran off the road and then collided with a tree,” APD’s release says. “Speed is suspected to be a contributing factor in the collision.”
Police say Drummond and an occupant were transported to Mission Hospital with serious injuries. Drummond succumbed to his injuries on July 23 at Mission Hospital. 828newsNOW has reached out to APD for the condition of the occupant.
