ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Police in Asheville are investigating a late-night shooting in West Asheville that left one person seriously injured, authorities said.
Officers responded to a report of a gunshot wound victim on Malcolm Court around 11:37 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, the Asheville Police Department said. When they arrived, they found a person with gunshot wounds to the neck and arm and provided aid until emergency medical services arrived. The victim was taken to Mission Hospital with serious injuries.
Detectives and forensic technicians processed the scene and began an investigation. Preliminary findings indicate the shooting stemmed from a verbal dispute that escalated when both individuals drew pistols. One person fired multiple shots, striking the other, police said.
Investigators also found gunfire damage to an exterior wall and window of a nearby home, as well as to a vehicle at the residence.
Police said those involved who have been contacted so far are cooperating with detectives and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
