ARDEN, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Hailey Dawn Bowlin, 27, and Cameron Joseph Samotis, 29, were arrested in connection with theft and a break-in at the home of retired NASCAR driver David Marcis’ home in Arden, N.C. Bowlin is held on bond for over $1 million.

The arrest was made through a partnership between the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office and Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.

On Aug. 28, 2026, BCSO deputies responded to Marcis’ home on Greenleaf Drive in Arden to take a report of a residential breaking and entering. On Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026, Bowlin was arrested and charged with a probation violation. The next day, she was charged with second degree burglary, possession of a firearm by a felon, larceny of a firearm, larceny after breaking and entering and five counts of obtaining property by false pretenses.

Bowlin was booked into the Henderson County Detention Center, where she is held on a $1,005,000 bond, according to the HCSO website.

On Tuesday, Sept. 8, detectives charged Samotis with second degree burglary and arrested him the following day, Sept. 9, in Henderson County.

“Many of the items taken from Mr. Marcis were personal and irreplaceable. We are grateful for the work our Criminal Investigations Division, our Patrol Deputies and our colleagues at the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office put into this case.” said BCSO District 1 Captain Dustan Auldredge. “Their dedication led to the recovery of most of his property and the arrests made in this case.”

According to the BCSO, most of the items stolen from Marcis have been recovered.

“This investigation is a great example of the importance of law enforcement agencies working together across county lines. Through communication, cooperation and the sharing of investigative resources, investigators from both agencies were able to work collaboratively to develop leads, locate property connected to the investigation and help bring the case to a positive outcome,” said the HCSO in a statement. “This collaborative effort demonstrates what can be accomplished when law enforcement agencies work together toward a common goal of accountability and justice.”
