FAIRVIEW, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Two Buncombe County schools were surprised yesterday afternoon with massive school supply grants.
During a Fairview Elementary school assembly at 1:30 p.m. yesterday, Thursday, April 24, principal Bonnie Bolado introduced a very special guest to the crowd of students and faculty.
Nikki Nettles is the marketing director of Altar’d State, a nationwide women’s clothing boutique with a location in Biltmore Park. During the assembly, Nettles took to the microphone to announce that Altar’d State has donated $20,000 in credit to Fairview Elementary for use at AdoptAClassroom.org, an online nonprofit connecting teachers with classroom supplies.

After the applause died down, Nettles announced that Altar’d State would also donate an additional $20,000 for AdoptAClassroom.org supplies to Eblen Intermediate, much to the delight of Eblen principal Josh Fisher and assistant principal Lakeisha Lee, who were visiting for the occasion.
The grants will be split among the schools’ teachers to buy supplies.
“We know it’s been a challenging year, and Asheville has one of Altar’d State’s oldest stores, so our company feels like this is home,” Nettles shared, according to a BCS press release. “We wanted to do something to celebrate Asheville-area students and teachers and share this gift with your schools.”
Fairview students demonstrated their appreciation to Nettles and Altar’d State by performing the Fairview school song with music teacher Taylor Sanders playing along on guitar.
“We heard this school year started with the theme ‘Together We Rise,’” said Nettles, “and we are so happy to be a part of that.”
