HALLOWEENTOWN, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Every day this month, resident horror movie enthusiast and 828newsNOW staff reporter Pruett Norris is recommending a Halloween film for your macabre amusement.

Whether they be monster movies or fearsome family films, demonic possessions or slasher sensations, this exercise hopes to encourage spooky seasonal “scream”ings at home or in cinemas.

As the old saying goes, “trick or treat, trick or treat, give me something good to…watch.”

Day 12: TERRIFIER 2 (2022, 138 min., directed by Damien Leone)

It would be hard to pick a more hardcore Halloween movie than “Terrifier 2,” Damien Leone’s gonzo gore extravaganza.

The film, which has a sequel out in theaters now, takes relish in its practical effects, showering the screen with blood, guts and worse. The “Terrifier” franchise stars Art the Clown, a sadistic mime-like clown.

Art instantly joined the pantheon of slasher movie villains after his debut, accompanying longtime mainstays like Michael Myers, Freddy Kreuger and Jason Voorhees. The difference between him and his contemporaries is that the “Terrifier” films are far, far gnarlier.

The first “Terrifier” film is low and mean, tearing victims apart pitilessly and cruelly. The second installment atones for that tone, finding the humor in its ridiculously over-the-top violence without sacrificing its savagery.

The film is long by slasher standards – 2 hours and 18 minutes – but crams in so much plot with a likeable protagonist – Lauren LaVera’s Sienna Shaw – that it excuses itself. The movie is beautifully shot and boldly grindhouse, and a whole lot of fun for the sickos out there.
