HALLOWEENTOWN, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Every day this month, resident horror movie enthusiast and 828newsNOW staff reporter Pruett Norris is recommending a Halloween film for your macabre amusement.
Whether they be monster movies or fearsome family films, demonic possessions or slasher sensations, this exercise hopes to encourage spooky seasonal “scream”ings at home or in cinemas.
As the old saying goes, “trick or treat, trick or treat, give me something good to…watch.”
Day 2: PSYCHO (1960, 109 min., directed by Alfred Hitchcock)
If there has ever been a horror movie to watch with your mom, it’s Hitchcock’s classic 1960 slasher. While much of the movie has seeped into popular culture in the 60-odd years since its release – the knife in the shower, the piercing strings on the soundtrack, the black-and-white neon of the Bates Motel sign – “Psycho” continues to shock in practice.
After all, if you’ve never seen the film but know about Janet Leigh’s wet demise, you may be surprised to find another hour left in the runtime. Or maybe you have seen the movie but never noticed the skull motif in the swampy car. Or perhaps you love this film. Have you watched it with your mother recently? They say a mother is a boy’s best friend, and I say “Psycho” will be a Halloween hit for the two of you.
“Psycho” is now available to stream with a Netflix subscription.
