HALLOWEENTOWN, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Every day this month, resident horror movie enthusiast and 828newsNOW staff reporter Pruett Norris is recommending a Halloween film for your macabre amusement.
Whether they be monster movies or fearsome family films, demonic possessions or slasher sensations, this exercise hopes to encourage spooky seasonal “scream”ings at home or in cinemas.
As the old saying goes, “trick or treat, trick or treat, give me something good to…watch.”
Day 26: UN CHIEN ANDALOU (1929, 21 min., directed by Luis Buñuel)
This is the ultimate “you won’t believe how weird this is, check it out” YouTube video film. Luis Buñuel and his collaborator, artist Salvador Dalí, are the grandfathers of surrealism, and “Un Chien Andalou” is the template for the genre.
At only 21 minutes, “Un Chien Andalou” might appear slight. Instead, consider the fact that is so inscrutable it would play magnificently in the background of a Halloween party. Get a playlist rolling, put “Un Chien Andalou” on a loop, and enjoy an eerie and captivating glimpse inside the weirdo brains of men born over 100 years ago.
“Un Chien Andalou” is available to watch on YouTube.
