ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A Swannanoa Solstice, an annual seasonal celebration of local and world culture, heritage and community through song, dance and storytelling, is set for 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, in Diana Wortham Theatre.
Created by the founders of The Swannanoa Gathering at Warren Wilson College, A Swannanoa Solstice has ushered in the holidays with local folk music and traditions for the last 22 years in performances filled with wholesome holiday cheer.
Recently, the community of Swannanoa has been at the center of much news coverage as a particularly hard-hit area in the wake of Hurricane Helene.
“This year, A Swannanoa Solstice will hold more poignancy than ever,” Wortham Center for the Performing Arts Managing Director Rae Geoffrey said in a news release. “Local musicians and storytellers will come together to not only celebrate the season — but to also recognize the resiliency of Swannanoa and all of Western North Carolina.”
Wortham Center for the Performing Arts is at 18 Biltmore Ave. in downtown Asheville. Tickets are $60 for adults and $22 for children younger than 15. Group rates are available. Call 828-257-4530 or visit worthamarts.org for more information.
