Allen Lee Hincher of Brevard, formerly of Wilkes County, released his earthly bounds to embark on his next great adventure at his home on June 4, 2024, after a stubborn and courageous battle with cancer.

Allen was born the sixth child of Ambrose Milton Hincher and Maude Lyon Hincher in Alleghany County on January 21, 1960.

Allen was a beautiful, much-loved blue-eyed, white haired little boy who grew up to be an intelligent, honest, witty guy with a great, often dry, sense of humor, but always Baby Brother to his siblings who loved him.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Fred M. Hincher (Joyce) of Elkin.

Survivors include his wife and loving adventure companion of 41 years, Sandra Welborn Hincher, sisters Arlene H. Harris and Rachel H. Jordan (Mike) of North Wilkesboro, brothers Clyde Hincher (Jane) of Beaufort, S.C. and Von Hincher (Judy) of Summerville, S.C., and sister-in-law, Lynn Redding of Key West Fla.  He is also survived by ten nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, and beloved fur-babies, Dexter, Rocky, and Daisy.

Allen was a generous soul and a great friend to many.  He loved the beach, the sun, traveling, good books, good movies, and good music, with a particular fondness for Jimmy Buffett.  His ability to remember the lyrics to everything (great) was matched only by his tendency to sing them (sometimes not-so-great).  He was an accomplished cook as well, known for his homemade soup, gumbo, granola and spicy-hot Chex mix, all favored Christmas gifts to his friends and siblings.  He was an avid cyclist, hiker, and dog-walker.  Allen was a graduate of Western Carolina University, a retired CPA, and former owner of Windy Gap Vineyards & Winery.

“Oceans of time will wash on by
Ebbing, flowing through our lives
Why should we hurry the tide? You and I
Only have oceans of time.”

— Jimmy Buffett, Oceans of Time
