ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Police Department is investigating two separate gun discharges that occurred over the weekend. No injuries were reported in either incident, though both resulted in property damage.
In the first incident, APD officers responded around 2:32 a.m. on June 28 to a report of a gun discharge on Atkinson Street. Upon arrival, officers encountered a large crowd. While canvassing the area, they located multiple shell casings and several damaged vehicles, but no victims. The preliminary investigation suggests that two men got into a verbal altercation before the argument escalated into a shootout.
One suspect was described as a Black male in his early 30s, 5 feet 10 inches tall and around 155 pounds. The other suspect was described as a Black male in his early 40s, 5 foot 11 inches tall and around 180 pounds.
In the second incident, around 10:57 p.m. on June 29, APD officers responded to reports of a gun discharge in the 900 block of West Chapel Road in the Shiloh neighborhood. When the officers arrived, the suspect had already fled the scene. While canvassing the area, officers located 12 shell casings and an unoccupied vehicle that had been struck by gunfire.
