ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — An app will make it easier for Buncombe County parents to keep up with the school buses their children ride.

The Edulog app has a portal where parents can follow the students’ buses on a map.

“it really provides the end users — the parents — the location of the kids’ buses in real time,” Buncombe County Schools Transportation Director Jeremy Stowe said.

The parents download the app on their phones or tablet. They create a user name.

“They go to the student list and add a student,” Stowe said.

From there, parents can click on “Where’s my bus?” or “Where’s my child?”

It shows the pick-up and drop-off times and even the bus number.

“And on the map, there’s this little bus icon they’ll be able to follow that’s where the bus is located,” Stowe said, pointing to the icon on his phone. “They can watch it from when it left to when it gets where it’s going.”

A tablet mounted in each school bus will show drivers a map along with a list of their next stops.

The app also has something for bus drivers. A tablet mounted in their buses will show a map along with a list of their next stops.

“It’s kind of like UPS but we’ve got more fragile packages,” Stowe said.

Buncombe County Schools started using the app at the end of last year.

“The start of school, there’s a lot of anxiety and stress. We hope this will reduce some of that,” Stowe said.

“Once we get up and running well, we’ll have a message feature where we can alert parents of any dealys and that kind of thing.”
