Arden man charged with taking indecent liberties with a child

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) —

An Arden man is out on bond after being charged with taking indecent liberties with a child, a Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said.

According to the incident report, Greg Sharrits, 60, of Arden, was arrested on Wednesday, May 29, after an incident at Valley Springs Middle School.

Sharrits, who was an intensive intervention assistant in the Progressive Education Program, is no longer employed by the Buncombe County Schools system, a district spokesperson said.

Sharrits was released to a bondsman on May 31, sheriff’s spokesperson Christina Esmay said.

Buncombe County Schools issued the following statement:

“Mr. Greg Sharrits is no longer employed by the Buncombe County Schools system. We will continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff.”
