MARION, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A Marion man has been charged in a hit-and-run that authorities said was deliberate.

Shane Donovan McKinney, 34, was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and felony hit-and-run inflicting serious injury, a news release from the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office said.

The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers responded to the 4500 block of Sugar Hill Road on June 24 for a reported hit-and-run involving a pedestrian.

The man was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, and the suspect’s vehicle left the area before law enforcement arrived, according to the news release.

“The investigation determined the act was intentional and stemmed from a prior dispute between McKinney and the victim,” the news release said.

McKinney received a $50,000 secured bond.
