ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Bus service changes are coming to Asheville as part of ongoing construction for the Interstate 26 Connector project, with several ramps set to close permanently in April and May, transportation officials said.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation plans to close the Riverside Drive entrance ramp to Interstate 240/Interstate 26 at 9 p.m. April 16. The I-240/I-26 off-ramp onto Hill Street is scheduled to close at 9 p.m. April 17.
The closures will affect several Asheville Rides Transit routes. Buses on routes WE1, WE2 and W5 will detour by turning right from Patton Avenue onto Haywood Street to access I-240 westbound, rejoining their regular routes near the I-26 and I-240 interchange.

As part of the changes, bus stop 154 at Hill Street and Riverside Drive will be permanently discontinued. The city posted a closure notice at the stop April 2 to alert riders.
Passengers are advised to use bus stop 311 at Atkinson Street and Hill Street, located less than a quarter mile away. Riders using that stop will need to take route N3 and transfer at the ART Station to connect with westbound WE1, WE2 or W5 routes.
Route N3 serves the Atkinson Street stop every 30 minutes, at five minutes and 35 minutes past each hour.
