ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) – The City of Asheville will be celebrating the beginning of summer with a new mobile parking app designed to provide easier payment options for residents, commuters and tourists alike.
On June 2, 2025, parking in downtown Asheville will begin accepting the Flowbird app for payments. Both metered parking and city operated parking lots will use the new app. Current payment app provider Passport will continue service until June 30, 2025. “Private lots may continue using their preferred parking apps,” the City stated in a press release. No infrastructure changes to the parking lots and spaces will be made.
Flowbird, a mobile parking payment app, won a contract from the City of Asheville to create a new payment experience for downtown parking. The contract with the previous app provider Passport had expired. The Asheville City Council approved the new contract with Flowbird on Dec. 10, 2025.
Features Flowbird will offer include are a map of available parking spots around the city and ease of payment, accepting all major credit cards and tap-to-pay services like Apple Pay and Google Pay.
“This transition reflects our continued commitment to improving public services with accessible, modern tools,” said Sabrina Tolley, Parking Division Manager. “Flowbird offers a more seamless and intuitive parking experience for both residents and visitors.”
You can download the Flowbird app for Apple and Android. More details on the project are available here.
