ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Seems like Wednesday’s weather will have a little bit of everything — warm, cold, rain, snow, wind.
The day’s high near 60 came early Wednesday morning. Temperatures are expected to fall to about 34 by 1 p.m.
Rain will be tapering off through the morning and will change to snow in the upper elevations along the Tennessee border. Some forecast models show minor accumulations even in the Asheville area.
Snow will taper off Wednesday afternoon with generally light accumulations ranging from a half inch to 3 inches. The highest totals of 1-3 inches will be mainly confined to the Smokies with an inch or two possible across the northern mountains, according to the National Weather Service. Any snow-covered or wet roads are likely to be slick as temperatures drop through the day.
And there’s a Wind Advisory until 1 a.m. Thursday for Avery, Yancey, Mitchell, Buncombe and Henderson counties and the mountains of Caldwell, Burke, McDowell, Rutherford and Polk counties.
Northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected with gusts of up to 55 mph. Weakened and unstable trees and large limbs may be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.
