ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Art Museum will present In a New Light: American Impressionism 1870-1940, Works from the Bank of America Collection from Feb. 7 through June 29, 2026.
The exhibition features works by more than 75 artists, including Childe Hassam, George Inness, Thomas Moran, John Sloan, Ernest Lawson, Daniel Garber and Guy Carleton Wiggins. It offers a broad survey of American Impressionism, exploring its connections to earlier Hudson River School landscapes and later modernist movements.
The show highlights how regional artist colonies across the United States interpreted rural, maritime and urban life through Impressionist techniques such as brisk brushstrokes, vibrant colors and atmospheric effects.
“It’s exciting that our region and Asheville Art Museum were selected to host the In a New Light exhibit as part of the Bank of America Arts in our Communities program that loans exhibitions at no cost to museums and nonprofit galleries,” David Dowd, president of Bank of America Asheville, said in a news release. “An exhibit like this one has the power to drive greater cultural understanding and provide access for everyone in the community.”

The Asheville Art Museum, focused on American art with an emphasis on the Southern Appalachian region, offers year-round exhibitions, educational programs, performances and community events. The museum is open 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Admission is free for members, active-duty military and children under 6. General admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students.
