ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Authorities in Florida are investigating the death of an Asheville man after skeletal remains were discovered in a remote area of Wakulla County nearly three months ago.

The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office said the remains, found Oct. 30 near Curtis Mill Road and Forest Road 399-Z outside Sopchoppy, have been identified as Andrew Mason Esquilin, of Asheville.

A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer discovered the remains in an unincorporated area near the Apalachicola National Forest, according to the sheriff’s office. The location is described as very remote and commonly used for hunting and other outdoor activities.

Sheriff Jared F. Miller said detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division are continuing a death investigation and are seeking information from anyone who knew Esquilin. Investigators are working to determine how Esquilin arrived in the area.

Anyone with information about Esquilin’s movements, associates, or circumstances leading up to his death is asked to contact the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office or Detective Tiffany Spears at 850-745-7184.

The sheriff’s office thanked the public for its assistance as the investigation continues.
