ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A Buncombe County jury has found Kevion Martese Edgerton guilty of first-degree murder in the 2022 shooting death of 21-year-old Keith Anthony Mosley II, prosecutors announced Saturday.
Edgerton, 26, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole following the July 26 verdict.
The shooting occurred May 29, 2022, at 100 Atkinson Street in Asheville. Mosley was found shot multiple times while sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. He died from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, arm and lower body, according to autopsy results presented during the trial.
“This verdict brings justice for Keith Mosley and his family,” District Attorney Todd Williams said in a statement. “The overwhelming evidence, including eyewitness testimony, surveillance footage and forensic analysis, demonstrated the defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.”

During sentencing, Mosley’s mother, Teresa Mosley, described her son as a big-hearted, talented young man with dreams of playing in the NFL. She said he had overcome adversity, including the loss of his godmother and the murder of his father during childhood.
“My son was a special, sweet, big-hearted, talented young man. He would give his last and best to anyone in need,” she said.
Surveillance video from nearby Hillcrest Apartments showed Edgerton leaning into Mosley’s vehicle before stepping back and firing 17 rounds, prosecutors said. An eyewitness testified that Mosley did not have a weapon and that Edgerton fired while Mosley remained seated in his car.
Forensic evidence indicated at least one shot was fired at close range, consistent with stippling marks found on Mosley’s left arm.
Edgerton fled the scene but later turned himself in to authorities.
The Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office said it remains committed to pursuing justice in violent crimes and ensuring community safety.
