ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Brightly colored markers are appearing on trees along the French Broad River within Asheville city limits, but city officials say the trees are not scheduled to be removed.

The markings are part of the French Broad Riverfront Parks Recovery Project, an effort to restore parks and greenways damaged by storms. City planners are conducting a detailed tree inventory and survey to map the location, size and species of each tree.

Officials said the information will help guide the recovery plan, protect healthy trees, stabilize riverbanks and inform future planting strategies to make the riverfront more resilient.

City officials thanked residents for their patience as the restoration work continues. More information about the recovery project is available here.
