ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A man is dead following a shooting in Asheville Monday evening, marking the city’s 8th homicide of the year, according to the Asheville Police Department (APD).
A news release from APD says officers responded to a report of a gunshot wound at a residence on Allen Avenue around 5:44 p.m. on Sept. 23. At the residence, officers discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Mission Hospital where he died from his injuries.
The police department is withholding the victim’s identity “until detectives can confirm their identity and complete next-of-kin notifications,” Monday’s release says.
Criminal Investigations Division Detectives responded to the scene along with Forensic Technician’s and are currently investigating the shooting.
