UPDATE: Man charged with impersonating officer tuns himself in

UPDATE: A man accused of impersonating a police officer turned himself in Friday, authorities said.

Rodrigo Barrera-Lozada surrendered to law enforcement and was charged with impersonating a police officer, according to the Asheville Police Department.

Barrera-Lozada was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility and is being held without bond. A magistrate determined he is ineligible for release under North Carolina’s Pre-Trial Integrity Act.

Detectives said the investigation remains ongoing.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The Asheville Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a 22-year-old man charged with impersonating a police officer.

Following an investigation, detectives charged Rodrigo Barrera-Lozada, born Oct. 3, 2003, with two counts of impersonating a police officer, according to a department news release issued Friday. Authorities said he also faces a recent felony charge of impersonating a police officer in Henderson County.

Police described Barrera-Lozada as about 5 feet 5 inches tall with a medium build, black hair and brown eyes. He wears glasses. His last known address was on Hilliard Avenue in Asheville.

Officials warned that Barrera-Lozada is believed to be armed and advised the public not to approach him.
