ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A recent graduate of A.C. Reynolds High School is organizing two blood drives before heading to college next month, continuing her commitment to community service.

Ever van Rijssen, who served as a drum major in the school’s marching band, has partnered with the American Red Cross to host the events. Van Rijssen began donating blood at 16 and has consistently donated every eight weeks since then — adding up to roughly two gallons.

“It’s something I’m very passionate about,” she said.

In her role as blood drive host, van Rijssen helps promote the events and greets donors when they arrive.

The first drive will be noon to 5 p.m. Friday, July 25, at Land of the Sky United Church of Christ on Overlook Road in South Asheville. A second drive is scheduled for 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at Groce United Methodist Church on Tunnel Road in East Asheville.
