ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — The fourth annual Prom Dress Exchange is set for March 28-30 at Groce United Methodist Church in Asheville, promising a weekend of joy and impact.

The event offers more than 1,800 free formal and professional outfits to students and community members preparing for prom, spring dances, job interviews and other significant milestones.

Dresses range in size from 00 to 4XL, and tuxedos, men’s suits, shoes and accessories are also available, ensuring everyone — regardless of financial background — can find something that makes them feel confident and celebrated.

A key feature of the Prom Dress Exchange is the availability of on-site alterations, allowing attendees to leave with clothing tailored to fit them perfectly. The service helps remove common barriers to formalwear access and offers students and community members a sense of dignity and inclusion. Volunteers from across the community assist with everything from greeting guests to styling and fitting, creating a warm, empowering atmosphere.

Organizers are seeking volunteer sewists to help with this and future events, particularly during peak prom season. Monetary contributions are also needed to provide modest financial stipends for sewing professionals who donate their time and talent. Additionally, the event’s shoe drive fundraiser is ongoing, with gently used shoes collected to help support next year’s exchange.
