ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW)

Searchers from almost two dozen law enforcement agencies scoured parts of Spivey Mountain on Monday, searching for a Cherokee man last seen Jan. 25 on Smokey Park Highway.

Several searches for Gabriel Thor Crow, 27, have been conducted in the Starnes Cove area in the months since his disappearance.

Monday’s search started at 8 a.m., and the public was urged to avoid the area.

“Recent information gathered by law enforcement suggests that Mr. Crow may be in the vicinity of Spivey Mountain,” the Asheville Police Department said in a social media post.

The post did not elaborate on the nature of the information.

“There will be an increase in emergency vehicle traffic, the terrain in the region is notably challenging and wildlife concerns further underscore the need for caution,” Asheville police said in a Facebook post.

APD spokesman Rick Rice said the search was expected to continue until 8 p.m. Monday.

“The number of cooperating agencies is a result of the physical location, previous interaction with Gabriel Crow, and his residence location. Some agencies are there merely to support the search effort. The reason it happened today was based on recent information gathered by law enforcement that determined the location,” Rice said.

Crow, a Native American, stands 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs about 170 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing dark-colored jeans and a black jacket.

Agencies participating in the search include the West Buncombe Fire, Fairview Fire, Reems Creek Fire, Broad River Fire, French Broad Fire, Buncombe County Rescue Squad, Buncombe County Emergency Services, Buncombe County Emergency Management, Buncombe County Fire Marshals Office, NC Emergency Management, Asheville Fire Department, NCTF2 Urban Search and Rescue, Mountain Rescue Team 3, Cherokee Tribal Police and Fire, Weaverville Fire Department, Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office, NC State Bureau of Investigations, Asheville Police Department and the N.C.
