ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville Regional Airport’s new north concourse, part of the AVL Forward project, officially opens June 25, 2025. The expansion marks a major milestone for the airport and the region it serves.

The new concourse will provide more capacity in a modern, light-filled space that reflects the character of Western North Carolina. But the project goes beyond aesthetics — it’s a key investment in the region’s future. AVL supports more than 22,000 jobs and generates more than $3.9 billion in economic impact annually, a news release from the airport said. The expansion strengthens the airport’s role as a hub for connectivity and economic growth.

AVL celebrates International Airport Workers Day

June 25 is also International Airport Workers Day, a time to recognize the essential work of airport professionals across North America — including the team at AVL.

From early morning runway inspections to late-night baggage handling, airport employees ensure safe and smooth travel every day of the year. AVL is honoring their dedication, teamwork and service — and encouraging travelers to thank the people who make air travel possible.

Delta launches new weekend flight to Boston

Delta Air Lines has launched a new nonstop route from AVL to Boston Logan International Airport. The first flight departed May 10.

The weekend-only service operates on Saturdays and Sundays using ERJ-175 aircraft with 70-seat, dual-class cabins. Delta now offers nonstop flights from AVL to four cities: Atlanta, Boston, New York-LaGuardia and Minneapolis-St. Paul.

AVL prepares for a busy summer travel season

The 2025 summer travel season is expected to be the busiest yet at Asheville Regional Airport.

Starting June 11, passengers will check in at a newly completed ticketing lobby. By late June, travelers will begin using the new north concourse. Rental car counters will move into the terminal by late August, and expanded parking is now available.

According to industry forecasts, regional airports with strong leisure traffic — like AVL — are expected to see continued growth in passenger numbers throughout the season.
