UPDATE: Patton Avenue remained closed at 10:15 a.m. as crews battled a fire at the Goodwill Outlet Store.
Authorities said the building was unoccupied at the time of the blaze.
A Goodwill spokesperson said the fire had not spread to the main Goodwill facility.
Firefighters are working the fire in a defensive mode and have encountered some difficulty accessing a sufficient water supply, said John Harbin, communications specialist with the Asheville Fire Department.
Tankers were seen refilling at the hydrant beside Abernethy United Methodist Church off Patton Avenue.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. No injuries have been reported.
