ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — A local nonprofit is stepping in to help families facing hunger after the upcoming suspension of SNAP benefits.
BeLoved Asheville announced Tuesday the launch of its new EAT Card, a gift card from a local store to provide food directly to those in need.
“We’ll share it with families, schools, and elders so everyone can get food. Hunger is rising in our community. Food prices are higher than ever, and families are stretched thin,” the organization said in a statement. “As SNAP benefits end for millions of working families, elders, children and veterans, we refuse to stand by.”
The EAT Card program aims to put food directly into the hands of those who need it most, offering support at schools and within elder communities. BeLoved Asheville described the initiative as a way to ensure that “when hunger strikes, love shows up with a meal.”
“Because eating is not a privilege. It’s a human need. It’s a human right,” the nonprofit said.
